Un progetto richiesto dal sindaco di una bella città del Sud Italia, e appoggiato dal presidente della Regione che, di quella città, era stato il prestigioso primo cittadino.
Nonostante le buone premesse, Light_Night non vedrà la luce.
La caducità del politico è la maggiore contraddizione dell’arte pubblica che, per realizzarsi, deve spesso fare i conti con amministratori, sindaci, presidenti e onorevoli, la cui durata in carica è inferiore al tempo necessario per concepire, progettare e realizzare opere complesse.
Light_Night – dal costo approssimativo di circa un milione di euro – avrebbe prodotto effetti visivi e di global-perception simili a quelli dell’Albero di Luce, ma molto più dinamici e sofisticati.
Inoltre sarebbe stata visibile in tutto il mondo in tempo reale tramite streaming. Interattiva con l’ambiente e con gli spettatori, sia presenti che collegati tramite Internet e smartphone.
Sarebbe stata un’opera meravigliosa, memorabile e persino un po’ terrificante, per il suo girare vorticoso (50 g/m). Tutto il mondo ne avrebbe parlato e i committenti politici sarebbero stati incoronati di alloro.
Infatti non c’è merito maggiore che realizzare opere apparentemente non necessarie, ma eccezionali, come appunto sono quelle dell’arte (Lorenzo il Magnifico docet!).

A design project requested by the mayor of a beautiful city in the South of Italy, backed by the President of the Region who was formerly mayor of that city, which despite these felicitous circumstances would never see the light of day.
The transience of the politician is the greatest contradiction in public art which, in order to be made, often has to deal with administrators, mayors, presidents and honourable people whose term in office lasts less time than it takes to conceive, design and create complex works.
Light_Night – costing approximately one million euros – would have produced visual and global-perception effects similar to those of the Albero di Luce, only far more dynamic and sophisticated. It would also have been visible worldwide in real time via streaming, interacting with the environment and viewers, both present and connected via the internet and smartphone.
It would have been a wonderful, memorable, even slightly terrifying work, because of its swirling movement (50 g/m).
The whole world would have been talking about it, and the political principals would have been crowned with laurels.
In fact, there is no greater merit than making works that are apparently unnecessary yet exceptional, which is the hallmark of works of art (Lorenzo the Magnificent docet!)
